David Finch Study
Study session! Took some time to dive into the bold, detailed line work of David Finch he is one of my favorites. It’s all about pushing myself in new directions and experimenting with style.
Minnow Bridge, Ireland
Inspired by the historic Minnow Bridge near Belfast, this pen-and-ink piece highlights the charm of Ireland's countryside. The intricate details of the stone bridge and the surrounding trees evoke a sense of timeless serenity, celebrating both nature and architecture.
Warm-Up
warming-up before diving into Inktober! Had a blast inking this quirky knight and his trusty bird companion. Sometimes the fun is all in the details.
Day 1: Backpack
For this year's challenge, I’m trying out a new ideation technique to really push my creativity! It’s all about exploring new concepts and getting the most out of each prompt. This grim reaper is carrying the weight of time, with a backpack full of his eternal tools.
Inktober Day 2: Discover
For this prompt, I decided to dive into a master study of Robert Watts' iconic Indiana Jones scene. I recreated it in pen and ink, capturing that thrilling moment of discovery. This is my nod to one of the most adventurous characters in cinema!
Day 4: Exotic
Today’s theme took me into the wild—exploring the definition of "exotic" as non-native to the ecosystem. This robotic visitor seems to have found a moment of connection with a local gorilla. Sometimes, the most unexpected friendships happen when worlds collide.
Inktober Day 9: Sun
For this piece, I delved into a master study of Franklin Booth's iconic line work. My focus was on analyzing and understanding the decisions behind his technique and style.
Day 10 : Nomadic
Rooted in tradition but always on the move. These tipi’s stand as a symbol of the nomadic way of life, embracing simplicity and freedom.
Day 11: Cover Homage
Decide to shift to Kayfabetober for this prompt! The comic-inspired themes really resonated with me, especially the Batman homage cover, blending vibes from Moebius’s Spider-Man and Frank Miller's iconic Batman.
Day 21 : Rhinoceros
Drawing this rhino was a chance to focus on the powerful form and texture of this incredible animal. I emphasized its rough skin and strong silhouette, aiming to capture its quiet strength and presence.
Day 24: Expedition
Decide to shift to Kayfabetober for this prompt! The comic-inspired themes really resonated with me, especially the Batman homage cover, blending vibes from Moebius’s Spider-Man and Frank Miller's iconic Batman.
Day 26: Snacks
A nostalgic and weathered vending machine, its metal frame rusted and worn from years of use. The glass window, slightly fogged and cracked, reveals a faded array of snack options—chips, candy bars, and other treats that seem as though they've been there forever. Some labels are peeling, the colors dulled with age. The machine stands in a forgotten corner, its once vibrant design now a relic of a bygone era, evoking a sense of longing for simpler times and the comforting allure of a quick snack. The shadows cast across the scene enhance the atmosphere of abandonment and nostalgia
Day 28: Jumbo
For the 'Jumbo' prompt, I chose a giraffe to highlight its towering elegance and unique patterns. I focused on its graceful posture and distinctive spots, aiming to convey the majestic scale of this gentle giant.
Plaster Cast Eyes
detailed pen and ink rendering of a plaster cast eye, capturing the delicate interplay of light and shadow across its surface. The fine, expressive lines mimic the texture of the cast, highlighting every subtle curve and contour that defines the eye's realistic form.
Frazetta Master Study
A dynamic pen and ink study of one of Frazetta's iconic lions, capturing the powerful energy and fierce motion of the animal. The sharp, expressive lines emphasize the lion's muscular form and raw strength, while the contrasts bring a sense of depth and movement to the piece. The mastery of detail showcases Frazetta's influence, infusing the drawing with vitality and intensity.
